Red Riders of the Realms
Lertol was discovered as an outcast from the village of Skeltos. Information gathered there by the Riders pictured Lertol as a loner who dabbled in magic. He was a mean spirited young man who cursed people in the street and kicked dogs as they approached him for a friendly pat. He made poor attempts to cast spells to impress the villagers but these only drew raucous laughter when they fizzled. Lertol apparently burned down his home and left the village to live outside of it in some dwarven ruins. From this hiding place he preyed on the villagers and all merchants coming and going from Skeltos. The Riders were almost victims of Lertol but they tracked him to his lair and fought him. He narrowly escaped by becoming invisible and making for the exit before it could be blocked. The group could not find any tracks leading from the ruins. Satisfied with returning many stolen belongings from the robber’s lair, the Riders left the area.
A few months down the road, Lertol makes a reappearance in the lives of the Red Riders. It appears that Lertol moved down to the Brindol area and began preying on travelers in much the same way as before. But this time he had gathered a few Dragonborn bandits to assist him. He also appeared to have a different mastery of magic. Lertol saw the Red Riders in Brindol during the Red Hand attacks and discovered that they took the Council’s commission to rescue the captured villagers. He pretended to take a commission as well. His plan was to allow the Red Riders to do all of the work and then ambush them and claim the rewards. His band successfully captured Ergosh as he traveled through the wild with only one other guide. But he sorely misjudged the power of Thaden’s group as he tried to ambush them. He was defeated and captured by the Red Riders and hauled back to Brindol.
